If you want to make sure that your team are being pushed enough or if you want to make sure that they achieve their true potential, then this is very easy to do, if you know the steps you need to take. If you want to help yourself and them then this is the guide for you.
- Share with them “Why”
The power of “why” helps to tap into their motivation and it helps them to push themselves further as well. Share with them why you are pushing them and tell them the importance of achieving a good result with your chosen project. You might also want to ask yourself why as well, as this will help you to clarify the reason with them.
- Communicate
Nobody likes working just because. You have to make sure that you share the activities and the expectations that you have. This will make things crystal clear for your team. If you don’t, then you may find that you end up demoralizing them and this is the last thing that you need. You have to show them the end results of their hard work and help them to realize that everything did pay off in the end. If you don’t communicate the positive result that stemmed from their hard work, then this will certainly work against you.
- Lead from the Front
It’s a good idea for you to demonstrate whatever behavior you want to see. Show your team how you are pushing yourself as a leader and also make sure that you set a good example. If you can do this, then you will inspire your team and this will encourage them to return the favor. If you are undergoing training, such as becoming proficient in your job by going on an EWP course, then this will really set the pace for the rest of the group.
- Set, Achieve and then Celebrate
If you push your team non-stop, then this will certainly lead to your team being burnt out. You need to try and set aggressive targets, but you also need to take the time to celebrate them after, as opposed to pushing onto the next task. Avoid putting off the celebration as well, because you don’t want to fall into the “it’s too late now” trap. If you do this, then you will soon see that your team put in the effort for you way more than you realize.
- Ask them to Reflect
Ask your team to reflect on whatever they have learnt and also ask them how they feel as though they have developed from the experience as well. This will help them to identify any personal benefit that they have obtained, and it will also help them to stay much more focused in the future. Reflection as a team will benefit you as well, as it gives you the chance to see any struggles that they might have had during the task so that you can give certain team members more support in the future.
