When the world seemingly ground to a halt back in March, it was a worrying time for businesses big and small, up and down the country. When would they be able to re-open again? How can we afford to keep our employees? Will our business ever recover from this economic nightmare?
Thankfully, bit-by-bit the country has begun to open up again, and a sense of normality can be felt in our high streets, and in our local cafes, stores and local attractions. But with consumer confidence at an all-time low, it’s going to take a lot to encourage nervous shoppers to step foot inside your premises and part with their money.
There is still uncertainty, but if we work together, stick closely to government guidelines and put some simple measures in place, many businesses will be able to make it through this difficult time and we won’t lose any more of the stores and shops we love in our local towns and cities. Here we’ll explore how we can all support local businesses during the coronavirus outbreak.
Adhere to the rules
Currently, in many countries, facemasks are now a requirement on public transport, as well as in supermarkets and shops – check out these Safetystock face masks if you need a new face covering. So, if you want to support your local businesses, ensure that you’re adhering to these little changes to make things easier for them. If you need to book to dine in their restaurant or café, don’t just walk in. Always wash your hands or use the sanitiser provided before you enter the store. And if there is a one-way system in place, follow it!
Buy gift cards
Has someone you know got a birthday coming up? Or maybe you’re already thinking about the festive season? Buying a gift card to use at a great local store means that they’re still generating an income, even if footfall to their business is a little slow. Plus, if lockdown measures come back into place, most stores will honour the purchase and extend the expiry date of its use.
Shop (locally) online
It’s easy just to tap the Amazon app on your phone and get what you want with a few clicks. However, you can still get the same convenience and great price by shopping locally online where possible. If your favourite store isn’t available online, consider reaching out to them via social media and ask if they have a specific item in-store. They may even deliver it for you!
Don’t neglect your local market
Big supermarkets mean long queues and worrying about other shoppers who won’t adhere to the latest rules. When you choose to get your fruit, veg and other groceries from your local market you’re directly supporting farmers and producers in your local community. Plus, you’ll find the quality of the produce notably different!
And finally, leave reviews
Impressed by how comfortable a local store made you feel, despite all the restrictions? Did they provide excellent service? If you were impressed, let the world know! Leave them positive reviews online and tell your friends. Local businesses need your support more than ever!
