Late last year, we reported how Las Vegas car dealerships did a pretty good job of it in offsetting the usual holiday season blues that afflict the car dealerships all across America. It is customary for car dealerships across the country to experience a drop in sales in the last quarter of the fiscal year. Still, as reports suggest, many Vegas dealerships fared better than their counterparts from other major cities in the U.S.
In itself, this is nothing new for that matter. For the last five years at least, Las Vegas dealerships have been able to draw increasingly greater attention from the automotive industry. And although some tend to disagree, many still opine that CES has come to hold the prestige of being the premier auto show in the country since 2016.
We may also remember that in 2016, Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, had unveiled the Chevrolet Bolt, the company’s chief Tesla fighter, at CES—and this just a week before their home show at Detroit.
New vs. Used Car
According to experts in the industry, one of the reasons why the leading Vegas car dealerships have been performing consistently well over the last few years is that they have paid increasing focus on selling used cars.
A recent announcement from Jonathan Smoke, chief economist at Cox Automotive, revealed that 2020 will see a slight decline in the total used vehicle sales. Smoke, however, says that sales of used or pre-owned vehicles by dealerships will keep climbing. Especially dealership facilities that deal with more expensive, younger and higher-quality vehicles will benefit the most from the trend.
In light of this recent reports and announcements, it hardly comes as a surprise that car dealerships that have fared best in 2019 (read Don Forman’s United Nissan, Fletcher Jones Import and Honda West) have been the ones that had concentrated as much on new models as on presenting their potential customers with higher-quality pre-owned vehicles.
Don Forman Nissan Leads the Path
As has been the case with many of his decisions taken over the course of a long and successful career, Don Forman Nissan’s almost visionary business acumen had played a crucial role in the recent successes enjoyed by many Vegas car dealerships.
Back in 2017 already, Forman had been able to sniff the changing atmosphere where many young Americans were not interested in buying new cars. Instead, they preferred to settle for used cars that are still in good condition. Affordability was one factor that led to this decision.
Unlike the Baby boomers, the new generation of individuals typically have less cash at their disposal. So, what they are basically looking for in a car is its dependability. In other words, they tend to seek out models that will last them a good few years instead of buying a new car and keeping it until the latest model is rolled out.
Apart from affordability, growing awareness of and concern around sustainability has also played an important role in the rise of used-vehicle sales. Don Forman United Nissan Dealership was one of the first to recognize this shift in consumer behavior and accordingly, Don Forman Nissan Dealership facility started to put greater importance on offering good quality used cars to its customers. And soon enough, other Vegas dealerships followed suit and it is this that has made Vegas Car Dealership industry as a whole to gain prominence in the last years.
Throughout his long career, Don Forman Nissan has relished accepting new challenges and taking them by the horn, so to speak. It was no different in case of the above shift in customer behavior we’ve just described. He was fast to recognize it and had wasted no time in coming up with a solution for the problem confronting him and the car dealership industry as a whole.
