Blogging has massively taken off in the last few years, and whether you blog for business, as a hobby or a way to earn money from home, there are huge benefits. You get to learn new skills from coding to photoshop to photography. You learn to network and can meet like-minded people. It’s also a fun way to earn money or to boost business if you’re blogging to promote your company. However, it can be frustrating when progress starts to stall. Perhaps you’re not pulling in the page views you once did, or your followers have started to slow down. Maybe you’re not getting as many sponsored post opportunities. If you want to give your blog a bit of a boost, here are a few areas to look at!
Design
Your blog might have the best, most interesting content but if your design looks chaotic, it could be putting people off before they’ve had the chance to read a thing. Is your font easy to read, and do the colors work well together? Are there too many ads cluttering up the page making your blog look spammy? Ideally, you will work with a designer who can create you something that’s custom to you, and looks beautiful on the page. If you don’t have the budget for this, you can buy pre-made templates that don’t cost much and will look far more professional than if you try to design your blog yourself.
Photography
Another important aspect of a blog is the imagery used. While it’s your words that will engage the reader and keep them coming back, it’s the design and photography that will draw them in. Use large, clear and bright images. If you don’t have good camera equipment, there are plenty of great quality, free images on sites like Pexels and Pixabay. Avoid cheap looking or bland images since they will offer nothing to your article or the reader. Spend some time getting the pictures right, there should be at least one picture for each post.
SEO
Search engine optimization works by using specific keywords to help people find your blog posts better. Using the correct words and strings of words means there’s more chance of people finding your posts and blog and boosts your result in search engines. If you’re unsure of how to go about this, you could speak to an SEO company who will be able to improve your ranking and in turn drive more visitors to your site.
Domain Authority
Domain authority is a metric used to show how much ‘authority’ your blog has on the internet. There are many factors involved, and some (like how old the site is) can’t be directly influenced. But one way you can boost your domain authority is by getting quality backlinks on other websites. If you have friends in the blogging community you could swap links on each other sites, another way is to guest post for others. At the end of the post include a link back to your own blog. It allows people to get relevant content, and you get a free backlink too. The higher your domain authority is, the higher chance you have of sponsors contacting you for paid placements.
